customers would like to have a redundant network to provide uninterrupted voice services.
In most cases, with an IP network in place, a second network is built for backup purposes.
Figure 1 illustrates a sample customer configuration where a remote site is networked to a
central site by an IP Wide Area Network (WAN). The central site has a T1 ISDN PRI facility
and the remote site has two analog lines connected to the PSTN network for backup in case the
IP network is not available. In these Application Notes, the configuration for redundant is from
the IP Office to Avaya Communication Manager only. The Avaya IP Office – Small Office
Edition handle calls at the remote site and a pair of Avaya S8710 Media Servers with a G650
Media Gateway handle calls at the central site. [Note that the name IP Office will be used to
refer to the IP Office – Small Office Edition throughout this document.] The Least Cost Route
feature is configured on Avaya IP Office to use the IP network as the primary route and the
PSTN (analog trunk) as the secondary route to the central site.
These Application Notes provide detailed configurations for IP Office to utilize the analog lines
to provide backup service for the remote site. Some related configuration for Avaya
Communication Manager will also be covered.

3. Avaya IP Office Configuration
This section describes the required configuration for Avaya IP Office to utilize analog trunk for
Least Cost Route and Incoming Call routing features. The embedded voicemail feature is also
used to provide an Auto Attendant to handle all incoming calls.
Note: The IP Office license key is installed on the PC where the IP Office Manager is installed.
To log into IP Office Manager, select Start Programs IP Office Manager from the
computer on which the IP Office Manager is installed. Log in with the appropriate credentials.

3.1. Configure IP Address and Default Gateway to Interface LAN 1
After logging into the IP Office Manager, double-click the System configuration tree item and
select the LAN1 tab as shown below.
• Enter IP address 44.1.1.1 in IP Address field.
• Enter 255.255.255.0 in IP Mask field.
• Click Disabled to disable the IP Office as a DHCP Server.
• Click the System tab and ensure that the Licence Server IP Address is set to the PC’s IP
address 44.1.1.144.
• Enter the IP address 44.1.1.144 as File Writer IP Address.
• Fill in other fields as needed.

As mentioned before, the Auto Attendant feature will be used to answer incoming calls for the
remote site. The embedded voicemail feature is enabled to provide auto attendant service. For
detailed configuration for embedded voicemail, refer to the document “IP Office Embedded
Voicemail Installation” listed in section 7.

Use the following steps to enable embedded voicemail on IP Office.
• Click the tab Voicemail
• Select Integral for Voicemail Type.
Use the following steps to add a default route for IP Office.
From the IP Office configuration tree,
• Click on IP Route and right click to select New.
• Leave the IP Address and IP Mask fields blank.
• Enter the router IP address 44.1.1.254 as the Gateway IP Address.
• Select LAN1 in the Destination field.
• Click OK.

3.2. Configure Analog Lines
The IP Office had a four-port analog interface installed. Port 1 and 2 are connected to the PSTN
in this configuration.
From the IP Office configuration tree,
• Expand Line and click on Line 1.
• Enter 1 for Incoming Group ID.
• Enter 1 for Outgoing Group ID.

3.3. Configure Line (IP Trunk)
The Avaya IP Office uses a line form to configure an IP trunk. This section describes the
procedures to configure a line to a C-LAN on an Avaya G650 Media Gateway controlled by
Avaya Communication Manager at the central site.
Use the following steps to configure a line to Avaya Communication Manager.
• From the IP Office configuration tree, click on Line.
• Right click to select New.
• Enter a unique number in the Line Number field and a unique number for the Incoming
and Outgoing Group ID’s.

• Click on the VoIP tab and enter the Avaya Communication Manager C-LAN IP address
as the Gateway IP Address.
• Select H450 in H450 Support field.
• The Compression Mode can be left at Automatic Selection or set to the first choice of
the corresponding Avaya Communication Manager ip-codec-set form entry. Ensure that
the Enable Faststart, Out of Band DTMF and Allow Direct Media Path options are
checked.
• Click OK.
3.4. Configure Short Code
A Short code is used to route calls to different destinations. Avaya IP Office uses the digits
entered to match the short code defined on the system to making routing decisions.
To route calls to the central site, right click the Shortcode link and select New to add a new short
code for the central site.

• Enter 222xxxx in the Short Code field. This matches any dialed string 7 digits or less
starting with “222”.
• Select Dial for Feature.
• Click OK.
3.5. Configure Least Cost Route
Use the following steps to configure Least Cost Route on IP Office to utilize both IP and PSTN
networks. By assigning the line 20 (IP Line) in the Main Route, the IP Office will use the IP
network as the primary route and the PSTN as alternate route.
• Click on Least Cost Route under the Configuration Tree.
• Right click the mouse at right panel and select New.
• Click the LCR tab and enter a name LCR-Main as shown below.
• No Time Profile is needed.

• Click the Main Route tab and enter 5 for Timeout. Note that IP Office will try Main
Route for 5 seconds, and then switch to Alternate Route 1 if the Main Route is not
available in that time period.

3.6. Configure Incoming Call Route
To route incoming calls from the analog lines to local stations, the Incoming Call Route (ICR)
feature needs to be configured for every stations registered with the IP Office. Since there are
only two analog lines available for IP Office, a simple way for callers to reach every extension is
to utilize the Auto Attendant feature. Instead of routing all calls to every extension, all incoming
calls can be routed to the auto attendant. As an example in these Application Notes, two options
are used with the auto attendant feature. Entering 0 will transfer calls to the operator and entering
1 will transfer calls to the extension that the user dialed.
3.6.1. Configure Auto Attendant
From the IP Office configuration tree,
• Double click Auto Attendant to open the Auto Attendant Configuration form as shown
below.
• Type AutoAttend in the Name field.
• Select time for Time Profile as shown. Note that a time profile has been created with
name time.

3.6.2. Add Incoming Call Route
Use the steps below to add the Incoming Call Route to the Auto Attendant. With this
configuration, any incoming calls on line 1 will be directed to the Auto Attendant. The IP Office
will route the call either to the operator or to the extension entered by the caller.
From the IP Office tree, click Incoming Call Route to open the Incoming Call Route
configuration form.
• Enter 1 for Line Group ID. Note that the line 1 has been assigned to the first analog port.
• Select the AA:AutoAttend for Destination.
• Click AnyVoice for Bearer Capability.
• Fill in other fields as needed.
• Click OK.
• Repeat the steps above to add the Line Group 2 to the Incoming Call Route.
Save any changes made to the IP Office by either clicking the icon or choosing Save from
the File Menu and following the presented screens.

Click OK to send the configuration to the IP Office.
4. Configure Avaya Communication Manager
This section describes the related configuration of Avaya Communication Manager. For detailed
system wide parameter and dial plan related configuration, refer to the Application Notes listed
in section 7. Native Communication Manager interfaces have been used to describe the
configuration. These administration screens are accessed from the System Access Terminal
(SAT).
It is assumed that the appropriate license files have been installed on all products, and that login
and password credentials for all products are available to readers.
4.1. Configure IP-Network-Region and IP Codec
Type change ip-network-region 2 to configure the network region with which the IP Office will
be associated. To conserve media gateway resources on calls between IP Telephones, set both
Intra-region and Inter-region IP-IP Direct Audio to ‘yes’. Set the QOS parameters consistently
with the overall Quality of Service plan.

5. Verification Steps
The following steps are used to verify the system operation.
1. With the IP network in place, make a call from an IP Office extension to a central site
extension and verify that voice quality is acceptable.
2. While the call is up, verify that the call is using the trunk group 1 (IP trunk) from the
Avaya Communication Manager to carry the call.
The SAT command status trunk 1 shows that the first channel is used for this call.

3. Disconnect the IP network connection from the IP Office and make a call from a central
site extension to an IP Office extension. Verify that the auto attendant plays recorded
greetings.
4. Follow the instructions, press 1 and enter 7009 and verify that station 7009 rings.
5. Answer the call at the station and verify that the voice quality is acceptable.
6. Make another call from a central site extension to another IP Office extension. Verify that
auto attendant plays greetings and the second analog line is active. This can be seen by
observing the lamp on the analog port. The blinking lamp indicates that the line is in use.
7. After the greeting plays, press 1 and enter 7010 and verify that station 7010 rings.
Answer the call at station 7010 and verify that voice quality is acceptable.
8. After restoring the IP connection for the IP Office, make a new call between the two sites
and verify that the call is carried by IP network.

6. Conclusion

Office analog trunks to backup the IP network as well as some related configuration for
